In 2000, alcohol related crashes cost the public an estimated $114.3 billion. In 2002, Americans took an estimated 159 million alcohol-impaired driving trips. In 2004, 1.4 million drivers, or 1 in every 139 licensed drivers in the U.S., were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. In 2006, an estimated17,602 people died in alcohol-related crashes - about 1 every 30 minutes. |
